In 2014, I opened CrossFit Imagine with my husband Daniel. It’s still a blur how it went from a “wouldn’t it be cool” conversation to actual reality; however, I know some of it has to do with the fact that I’m an Enneagram Type 8. In all honesty though, I had very little qualifications to take on this venture. Before opening our doors, I had ZERO hours of CrossFit coaching experience and had never run a business in my life (heck I have a B.S. in Ministry Leadership). On October 6th 2014, with the odds against us, we opened CrossFit Imagine, a business where I was coaching CrossFit and asking people to put their health and fitness in my hands.
I never could have “Imagined” how this would change my life. This gym has taken me through the most rewarding yet most terrifying years of my life. I have met the most incredible people and grown so much as a coach and student of health and fitness; but I have struggled for so many years on how to run a business.
To say that I have come close to closing the doors of the gym and this chapter of life is an understatement. I have knocked on the door many times. BUT, what has always had me put on the brakes is the ABSOLUTE BELIEF that this is what I’m supposed to do. I’m supposed to create an atmosphere not just for fitness, but a place of belonging for ANYONE. Yes, fitness is going to happen but so much more is happening too.
Through mentorship, I am continuing to learn how to better run a business that matches my passion for people and the desire for a better, more healthy life. I am also able to create opportunities for others who are gifted in the areas of coaching and nutrition; thus, making CrossFit Imagine one of the best places to workout!
When you come into the gym, we (me and our coaching staff) are going to discuss why you’re here and figure out your motivation for taking your first step. Then, we will address what your goals are, how you have succeeded and how you have failed. We are going to make a plan that will help you achieve your goals and to celebrate the victories along the way. We are going to keep you accountable, we are going to support you, we are going to cheer you on and we are going to give you a swift kick in the butt when you need it. You will NOT go unnoticed. You will be important. You will belong.
A sustainable lifestyle of health and fitness is difficult to achieve, and it will require a sacrifice of your time and money; however, your return on investment will never return void. You will add more time and create a better quality of life for yourself and the ones you love. With time and consistency, you will change. Your body will change, your mind will change, you will find that you are capable of more than you ever imagined, and you will be proud of yourself.
